September 11th (Sat) 2004
The weather was cloudy and after it was fine. The temperature was 26 degrees ℃. In the morning, the sun didn’t show up. An old woman hailed my cab in Ueno. He asked me, “Please go westward.” I repeated, “West!?” I didn’t know where the West was. I said, “Excuse me. Which direction is west?” He said, “What!? You don’t know where the west is!?” I said, “Sorry. He said, “The direction where the sun sets.” I said, “Sorry. From where we are in which direction does the sun set?” He pointed towards the west with a nervous gesture, “Left! Uh… Turn left at this crossing.” I said, “Okay.” I thought I wanted him to guide me along the route. Then he said again, “Ok! Please go towards the north, next crossing.” Oh no! I said, “Ok!” and thought for a while and confirmed his direction, “Excuse me. Shall I right turn at this crossing?” He said, “Yes!” I was relived to receive his guidance. Terrorists destroyed the World Trading Center Building in New York using air planes on September 11th, 3 years ago. It is very sad. In which direction will be New York? I made 38,000 yen.
