【第１０回】
曇り空、気温２５度、蒸し暑い日である。私は客を探している。カーブを曲がった。私の約２０メートル先でおばさんが道路を横断している。私は車を減速する。そのとき彼女はこちらを見て私と目が合う。彼女はその場に固まる。「早く横断して欲しい」 しかし彼女はそこで行こうか戻ろうか、行ったり引き返したりする。まるでそこで踊っているようだ。私は速度をさらに落とし、ゆっくりとついに車を約５メートル手前で止めた。彼女は安心する。そして早足で横断した。思う。彼女は横断歩道を渡らなくてはいけない。 私のつり銭箱はとても重い！ それは夕方、大橋にて男二人が私を止める。彼らは新宿まで行く。私は新宿を目指して運転している。彼らは小銭を数えていた。 「１，２，３，４、・・・」 数分後新宿に着く。料金１，７００円。一人の男は再び小銭を数える。「１，２，３、・・・」 そしてついに支払う。５０円玉３４枚！！ 彼は言った。「すいません、全部こまかいんだけど、ありますから数えてください」 私は５０円玉の小山を見た 「おっ！わかりました、大丈夫です。どうもありがとうございます」 なぜ彼らは５０円玉をこんなに持っているのか？ 私にはわからない・・・。 今日の売り上げ３５，０００円。
June 10th (Thu) 2004
The weather was cloudy and the temperature was 25 degrees ℃. It was very sultry today. I was driving and turned a curve, next I saw an old woman crossing the road in front of me at about 20 meters ahead. I slowed down the car, then her eyes met my eyes. She stopped on the spot. I wanted her to cross faster. But she was walking up and down. She seemed like dancing in the road. I slowed down ans finally I stopped the car at about 5 meters before her. She was relieved and walked with hurried steps. I thought that she should have crossed at a pedestrian crossing. My change box was too heavy because at evening, two men signaled me down in Ohashi. They asked me to go to Shinjuku. I was driving towards Shinjuku and they were counting their coins. “One, two, three, four, … …” Several minutes later, we arrived; that fare was 1,700 yen. Then one of the men counted coins again. “One, two, three, … …” finally the man paid with thirty-four 50 yen coins and said. “Excuse me. It’s all coins. Please confirm.” I looked at the mountain of coins and said. “Oh! Okay! Thank you very much.” Why did they have so many 50 yen coins? I don’t know. I made 35,000 yen.
